Lottery Challenge: Day 8

Tickets bought: one $5 Jingle Big Ol’ Bucks, two $2s and one $1 Holiday Cash
Day’s earnings: -$3
Net Earnings: -$40

OK, so I have now officially lost half the money I have invested so far. I won $7 on a $2 ticket today, though, further solidifying the denomination’s position as the top grossing and most frequent winning one of all the different types. In layman’s terms, it is the best so far.

According to my calculations, so far, I have won on 33% of the $2 tickets I have purchased— far better than the others — and have only lost $5 total on them. On $1 tickets, thanks to a big winner, I had actually made $6.

Does this mean that the state rewards those who are less greedy and less of a risk taker than others by putting the winners in the low denominations?

Well, I guess that is one way to see it, but there are a couple others. First, it could be a matter of me not having the money to buy a large enough sample size of the larger tickets to judge from. Or it could be that the state is actually greedy itself — putting the winners in the small denominations so it wouldn’t have to give as much out in prize money.

I have already decided what I will buy for the last two days of this thing. Well, sort of. I compiled all my tickets, and found that I have not bought enough $3 tickets. So tomorrow, I will buy three of them and a $1. Then on Saturday, the last day, I will buy either two $5 or a string of ten $1 ones, depending on how far in the hole I am.If I need a big winner, I’ll test my luck on the $5s, which have not been kind to me so far. But if I need under $20 — with a big winner tomorrow — I will go with the $1s.

So, now that that is settled, wish me luck as I round the corner for the home stretch. See you tomorrow.
