Andy’s Challenge: In Pictures

January 17, 2008 · 4 Comments

Thanks to our award-winning photojournalist Brooke Wolfe, along with a video we have the entire burger-eating fiasco documented in photos. Here is a sampling of a few of the more than 300 pics she took in the 30-minute event. I can’t blame her, though. I look so darn handsome eating my face off!!!

Gordon filming
Coach Gordon gets it on film. Ever the supporter, Gordon may have saved the challenge for me with his decision to make me eat a light breakfast earlier in the day.

RV dances a jig as I turn the corner on the last patty.

Chelsea rubdown
I think I scared Chelsea all the way back to Pittsburgh!

And finally, the agony of defeat…

Andy’s Challenge: The Aftermath

January 17, 2008 · 3 Comments

A day later, the aftereffects of devouring 50 ounces of meat still linger. My gastrointestinal system is struggling. I have only been able to digest a chicken salad sandwich in 24 hours, but I still feel like barfing and almost too full to move. I’m never doing this again — but I don’t have to. I have proven my intestinal fortitude.

I would love to hear from the other three folks in Sanford who have done it. Maybe we can start a support group, or a roaming band of eating superheroes who travel from town to town saving the world from superburgers.

Hopefully we will get the video up on the Internet soon so you can all witness the feat for yourself! It will probably be later this evening before we can get to it, though. And the Andy’s folks have promised to proudly display my picture in the restaurant for all to marvel at.

Folks have already asked me about the helmet. It is a tribute to the greatest picture I have ever seen. I vowed that one day, if I ever got the chance, I too would don the eating helmet. My friend and boss Kevin Degon made it for me out of an old motorcycle helmet that had rat’s nests in it in his garage. It is officially my most prized possession now.

Here is the picture.
